The Staggering Problem
of Childhood Obesity
It would be difficult to underestimate the problem of childhood obesity. Some studies say one in every five children. That doesn't tell the true scope of the problem.
The truth is that it depends upon the group being studied. One middle school in a small town in south Texas graduated an eighth grade class in which every child in the class was clinically obese.
The awful truth is that we are rearing a generation of children who as they grow into adulthood will never be able to work long enough, never be able to work hard enough, or produce enough revenue to offset the crushing cost of illness, and disability that will result from obesity, and over weight. Parents, and guardians produce fat children. The trend can be reversed. It must be. For every year that a child spends fat, or over weight, the chances grow less, and less, that they will ever be normal weighted.
Disease, disability, and a shortened life span are the terrible realities for these children. The only alternative is quality Nutrition Education for each child, and adult in the U.S.
The food industry in the U.S., and throughout the developed world has produced a nightmarish scenario that only education, and information can break through. Currently, it is estimated that over 96% of the "foods" sold in a modern grocery store are not food at all. They are food products. What doctors, and nutritionists refer to as "frankenfoods".
In this website, we will include basic information on the food groups, and the essentials of food planning for a nutritionally sound diet. We will talk about picky eaters, chemicals never to be eaten, and dispel some of the myths. It is our belief that it is not too late. However, there must be a dramatic reversal. This is the social problem that will bring our nation down. Any desire to play down the gravity of the problem is irresponsible.

Food Additives to be Avoided
There was never any conspiracy to destroy the confidence of food, and grocery consumers. It happened by default.
After the second world war, food companies began using the best available technologies to make food more convenient, and to extend shelf life. What followed is what Dr. Mark Hyman refers to as the creation of "frankenfoods".
The tragedy has been that the convenience food industry has taken very little responsibility in trying to make their foods safer, now realizing the danger of chemical additives. A good example is monosodium glutamate, or MSG. This additive has been studied extensively, and found to be unsafe, and damaging to health. Experts have written books attesting to it's destructiveness, and yet it remains in our food.
There are many such products. The list given here in taken from the book "Ultra Metabolism", by Mark Hyman, MD. Hopefully, you will write them down, and when you are shopping you will avoid foods that contain these chemicals.
